A SECOND CHANCE

Making her way through the club’s doors, Karina walked over to the bartender and asked for Trae.

“He’s in his office,” Sam replied.

As soon as she turned around, she bumped into Sommone. “Hi Karina,” Sommone said, with a sneaky grin. “Has Don King called you about any boxing matches yet,” she joked.

“Fuck you, hoe,” Karina snapped. She told Sam thank you and gave Sommone an evil glare. “One of these days slut, it’s gonna be you and me,” she said.

“One of these days? How about today, bitch?” Sommone yelled. Pissing Karina off was starting to be fun for her.

The two women stood toe to toe, cursing at one another. “Every time you see me, I got to be a slut or a bitch!” Sommone screamed, pointing her finger in Karina’s face.

“That’s because you are a slut!” Karina yelled back, pointing her finger.

“Your man don’t think so. As a matter of fact, he loves himself some Mone’.”

Karina clenched her jaw. “Whatever. Trae ain’t thinking about your nasty ass.”

The two women continued to exchange insults as a bodyguard made his way between them. He knew that if he let them get into a fight on his shift, it would be his last day on the job. He silently prayed that someone would go and get Trae, so he could put out the fire.

After going back and forth with Karina, Sommone decided she wasn’t worth losing her job, so she rolled out. Before she left, she turned to Karina, whose eyes were fixed on her and said, “Your day is coming, sweetheart. Believe that.” When Trae falls, I’m gonna make sure I lock that bitch up for conspiracy, even if the charges don’t stick.

“Shut the fuck up!” Karina yelled, swinging her purse across her shoulders.

Karina watched as Sommone walked out the club’s front door. I can’t stand that girl. Ever since I saw her in Trae’s office that day, I haven’t been able to trust her ass.

When Karina finally made it to Trae’s office, she knocked on the door, but there was no answer. She placed her ear against the cold wood to see if she could hear anything, but there was dead silence. For some reason, she didn’t trust Trae anymore either. After waiting for a few seconds, there was still no response. Karina knocked again. When someone finally opened the door, her eyes almost popped out of her head.

“Can I help you?” Carmen asked.

“Is Trae here?” Karina snapped, with her hands on her hips.

Carmen turned to Trae, who was already on his heels after hearing Karina’s voice.

“Hey baby,” he said nervously. “Come on in.” He opened the door as wide as he could.

“Hey, I thought we could go grab something to eat. That’s if you’re not too busy,” she said, eyeing Carmen from head to toe.

“No…” Before Trae could finish his sentence, Karina placed her hands on her hips again. “Naw, I mean, I’m not busy,” he said.

“I thought so,” Karina responded.

Carmen told Trae she would call him later and started to leave.
